  • Botanical Society of Western Pennsylvania
    The Botanical Society of Western Pennsylvania is one of the oldest botanical organizations in the country which has met and served as a resource of knowledge on the flowers of Pennsylvania since 1886. This is accomplished with the help of professional and amateur botanists, monthly meetings and weekly fieldtrips.

  • Garden Club of Allegheny County
    Founded in 1914 by a group of idealistic women who wanted "to promote an interest in gardens – their design and management –, to cooperate with the protection of wild flowers and native plants and to encourage civic planting."
  • Garden Club of McKeesport
    The Garden Club of McKeesport maintains a public garden that is located within a 3-acre arboretum located in McKeesport’s Renziehausen Park. Included is an ALL AMERICAN ROSE GARDEN that is the second largest rose garden in Pennsylvania and one of only 136 in the United States.
  • Garden Club of Munhall
    Founded in 1939, the group meets monthly in Munhall.
  • Greensburg Garden Center
    The Garden Center, a non-profit educational organization, serves Westmoreland County and areas surrounding the region. It operates a hub for 10 community garden organizations.
  • Grow Pittsburgh
    A Special project of the Penn State Cooperative Extension whose goal is to model, teach, and facilitate sustainable urban agriculture within the Pittsburgh region.
  • Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation
    A research division of Carnegie Mellon University that specializes in the history of botany and all aspects of plant science and serves the international scientific community through research and documentation.
  • The Italian Garden Project
    The mission of The Italian Garden Project is to document, preserve, and share important aspects of Italian-American heritage, specifically Italian vegetable growing.
  • Men's Garden Club of Pittsburgh
    Founded in 1940, the Men’s Garden Club of Pittsburgh is one of the largest and most active garden clubs in the tri-state area. In 1994 it began accepting women.

  • Orchid Society of Western Pennsylvania
    The Orchid Society of Western Pennsylvania, Inc. is a non-profit corporation organized to advance the propagation, horticulture and preservation of orchid species and hybrids through research, education and scientific endeavors.
  • Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens
    provides education in horticulture, gardening, and conservation to individuals, schools and communities in western Pennsylvania.
  • Pittsburgh Botanic Garden
    Formerly the Botanic Garden of Western Pennsylvania and the Horticultural Society of Western Pennsylvania)
    Founded in 1988 and incorporated as a 501(c)3 organization in 1992, The Horticultural Society of Western Pennsylvania’s purpose is to develop the region’s first comprehensive botanical garden, focussing on displays of regional flora, horticultural and environmental education, and research into botanical issues of regional importance.
  • Pittsburgh Garden Experiment
    A forum for city farmers in Pittsburgh where you can learn about urban food production and what's working here in Pittsburgh.
  • Pittsburgh Iris & Daylily Society
    A club that holds six to eight meetings a year and publish a quarterly newsletter. They also usually sponsor accredited shows - iris in late May and daylily in mid July.

  • Back Yard Fruit Growers
    An informal association based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Check out their various focus groups (garlic and habaneros). There are also great links to related websites on their page.
  • Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania
    The GCFP is a not-for-profit volunteer organization of over 6,000 Pennsylvania garden club members: women, men and youth who share interests in gardening, civic beautification, floral design, conservation of natural resources, environmental and legislative issues through local clubs. The local clubs are grouped into 11 districts. The GCFP is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
  • Penn State Master Gardener Program
    The Master Gardener program was established to assist Cooperative Extension in reaching the consumer horticulture audience. The program provides interested individuals with extensive training in many phases of gardening. In return, partcipants dedicate volunteer time to teaching other home gardeners. Training and volunteer service are coordinated at the county level by extension agents, horticulture assistants, or volunteers.
  • Pennsylvania Gourd Society
    The Pennsylvania Gourd Society is a state-wide non-profit organization consisting of gourd lovers of many varieties - from novice gourd gardeners to experienced hand-pollinators, from budding artists to juried fine artists, and different kinds of gourd crafters.
  • The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society
    The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society is a not-for-profit membership organization founded in 1827 and producer of the Philadelphia Flower Show, an annual event in March that attracts thousands of visitors and gardening enthusiasts.
  • Pennsylvania Landscape & Nursery Association
    Members include production nurseries, landscape contractors, landscape maintenance maintenance firms, garden centers, florists, and interiorscape firms. The site provides current information on legislative/regulatory issues, member benefits, and educational opportunities.
  • Pennsylvania Native Plant Society
    The Pennsylvania Native Plant Society (PNPS) is a not-for-profit organization that helps people learn about and enjoy native plants found in Pennsylvania. It sponsors numerous field trips throughout the state and publishes a quarterly newsletter for members.

  • American Community Garden Association
    Their mission is to promote community gardening because: "community gardening improves people’s quality of life by providing a catalyst for neighborhood and community development, stimulating social interaction, encouraging self-reliance, beautifying neighborhoods, producing nutritious food, reducing family food budgets, conserving resources and creating opportunities for recreation, exercise, therapy and education."
  • American Horticultural Society
    The American Horticultural Society (AHS) website includes information about joining the society and purchasing its publications, one of which is the bimonthly American Gardener.
  • American Society for Horticultural Sciences
    For professional gardeners (horticulturalists).
  • Garden Writers Association
    The GWA is comprised of creative garden communications professionals including freelance writers, book authors, syndicated columnists, editors, photographers, lecturers, television and radio personalities and more. Each year they award prizes for the best writing.
  • The Gardeners Of America /Men's Garden Clubs Of America
    A national organization with over 4,800 members in local clubs all around the USA that put great emphasis on gardening education and community beautification.
  • National Garden Bureau
    The National Garden Bureau is dedicated to the dissemination of accurate information so that home gardeners can successfully grow flowers and vegetables from seed. Check here for the latest varieties!

    The National Gardening Association offers expert advice and gardening articles on their website (they even have a weed library. They also have blogs by region.
  • Ecological Landscaping Association
    The Ecological Landscaping Association is a nonprofit, member-based organization of landscape professionals, homeowners, and community groups who believe in using landscape practices that are environmentally safe and beneficial.
  • Perennial Plant Association
    A professional trade association dedicated to improving the perennial plant industry by providing education to enhance the production, promotion and utilization of perennial plants. They choose a "Perennial Plant of the Year" that is "suitable for a wide range of climate types, low maintenance, easily propagated - easily comes true from seed or vegetative propagation, and exhibits multiple seasonal interest."
